BULKY KIDS MITTENS

Yarn: Anything Bulky. 50-90 yards
I used bulky handspun in my Gummi Bears colorway
Gauge: 4sts to the inch over stockinette
Needles: US5
Size: S(M,L) 4T(8yr old, 12 yr old)

Here is my loevly drawing of a hand and some letters. The letters correspond to the measurements needed to help make a custom fit mitten. Within the pattern directions you will have the general measurements to use and in blue are the corresponding hand measurements if you want to change them for a more custom fit mitten.

CO 24(28, 32) sts
Join in the round marking the beginning of your round
Work in 2x2 ribbing for 2 (2,2.5) inches (or measurement A)

Start working in stst - work in this for 1(1.5,2) inches (or measurement B)

Using a scrap piece of yarn, knit the next 3(4,4) stitches then slip these newly worked stitches back to your LHN.
Working in stst knit over those stitches and around the rest.
Continue in sts for 2(2.5,3) more inches (or meausrement C)

Start round top decreases. We use these decreases so there is no right or left mitten. It's easier for the kiddies.
Dec 1: *K2,K2tog, Repeat from * around [18(21,24) sts remain]
Knit 3 rounds
Dec 2: *K1, K2tog, Repeat form * around [12(14,16) sts remain]
Knit 2(3,3) rounds
Dec 3: *K2tog, Repeat from * around [6(7,8) sts remain]
knit 1(2,2) rounds.
Break yarn with about 10 inches left. Thread the yarn through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and fasten off

Thumb:
Pick up the sts on either side of the waste yarn and 1 sts on either side to stop any holes [8(10,10)sts]
Mark the beginning of your round.

Knit in sts for 1(1.5,1.5) inches (or measurement D)
Decrease, * K2tog, Repeat from * around
Knit 2 rounds.
Decrease * K2tog, Repeat from * around
Break yarn with about 8 inches left. Thread the yarn through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and fasten off

Weave in all ends.
Make 2 mittens exactly the same. With the rounded top, it doesn't matter which one is left or right.
