Baby Sock Sweater

Yarn: Knitpicks Simple stripes each sweater will need 2 balls. The 12 month old sweater may need a 3rd ball if you’re trying to match up all the stripes.

Notions: 4 – ¼ or 3/8 inch buttons.

Needles: Size US 1 (2.25mm) circular needle (worked flat) or straight needles.
1 darning needle for finish work

Gauge: 7sts and 10 rows = 1 inch

Sizes: 0-3months(3-6months, 6-9 months, 12 months)

Back
**CO 65(69,73,79)
Row1: K1, *P1,K1* repeat * to * across
Row 2: P1 *K1,P1* repeat * to * across
Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 1.5 inches ending with RS row.
Stst until pc measures 4.5(5,5.5,6) inches from CO edge
BO 2 sts beginning of the next 2 rows
BO 2(2,2,3) sts beginning of the fol. 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end of the next RS row 56(58,62,68) sts left**
Continue even in stst until piece measures 7.5(8.5,9,10) inches from CO edge ending with a WS row
Knit 13(13,14,16) sts, K2,tog, K1 Put the remaining sts on a holder
Next row Purl all
Next row knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1, turn
Next row purl all
Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 14(14,15,16)sts left on the needle ending with the WS row, put these stitches on a holder.
Leave the next 24(26,28,30) sts on a holder for the neck.
Work the other shoulder:
R1: K1, SSP, knit across
R2: Purl all sts
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 14(14,15,16) sts left ending with a WS row, work 10 rows all knit for the garter stitch button band. BO these sts

Front
Work the same as back * to * then as follows:
Continue in stst until piece measures 7(7.5,8,8.5) inches from CO edge ending with a WS row.
Knit 15(15,16,17) sts, K2,tog, K1 Put the remaining sts on a holder
Next row Purl all
Next row knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1, turn
Next row purl all
Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 14(14,15,16)sts left ending with a WS row, work 6 rows all knit for the garter stitch button band.
Work next row for button holes:
K2(2,2,3) K2tog,YO,K2, K2tog, YO, K2, K2tog, YO, K2(2,2,3)
Knit 3 rows
BO these sts
Leave the next 20(22,24,26) sts on a holder for the neck.
Work the other shoulder:
R1: K1, SSP, knit across
R2: Purl all sts
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until there are 14(14,15,16) sts left ending with a WS row. Put these stitches on a holder.

Sleeves (make 2)
Co 35(39,43,49)
Row1: K1, *P1,K1* repeat * to * across
Row 2: P1 *K1,P1* repeat * to * across
Repeat rows 1 and 2 for 1 inch ending with WS row.
Work 6 rows even then start increases:
K1, Kfb, K until last 2 sts, Kfb, K1
Work 5 rows even
Repeat the increases in this mannr until you have 47(53,59,69) sts
Work even until the sleeve measures 5.5(6,6.5,7.5) from the CO edge
Sleeve Cap:
BO 2 sts Beginning of the next 2 rows
BO 2(2,2,3) sts Beg of the fol 2 rows.
Dec 1 st ea end of next RS row
BO all sts
Finishing
Block pieces for assembly
Attach the live shoulders using a 3 needle bind off.
Sew the sleeve caps to the arm hole – note when sewing the shoulder seam that has the button bands you will need to overlap the button bands as if they are closed and baste before sewing that shoulder to the sleeve.
Sew the side seam and under arm seam
Neck:
Pick up and knit:
Back shoulder 10(10,10,11) sts, 24(26,28,30) sts from holder, 5(5,5,6)sts from back shoulder, front shoulder 9(9,9,11) sts, 20(22,24,26)sts from holder, 14(14,14,16) sts front shoulder for a total of 82(86,90,100)sts
Work 3 rows stst
Next row, reduce your stitches by 6(6,8,10)sts, and at the same time work to the last 4 sts, K2tog, YO, K2.
Work 5 more rows in stst
BO all sts.

Weave in all loose ends
Attach 4 buttons to the shoulder band.
