SUMMER PONCHO
Materials: 7 balls of Elann Sonata. (50g
balls 115 yards)
6 balls made the poncho and I used much of the 7th for the
fringe. I think if you wanted a shorter poncho you could easily get away with
6 balls or less..
Needles: size 9 US.
There is no size - you make it to the size that you desire. Shorter/less wide or longer/wider. You decide. If you follow my pattern to a "t" then it's more of a one size fits all. I've worn this poncho when I've been a slim 120lbs and when pregnant (wide) at 180lbs.
I used larger needles than specified so that I would have an airy drapey fabric. Its perfect for cooler summer nights. This patter will easily adapt to using smaller needles or thicker yarns, you will just have a different look. If you change yarn but still want drapey fabric, go up 2-3 needle sizes from the recommended size. If you want a warmer poncho, use the recommended needle size. Remember - on any adjustment your final stitch count will vary.

Pattern:
K1, Knit into bar that is between the first and next stitch to increase by
1 sts, Knit across to end.
repeat the pattern until you get the length you desire.
I had 140 stitches.
knit across the shoulder stitches (60) and put on holder, Bind off the next
20 (neck) sts, knit across the last 60 sts and put on holder.
This creates the front or back. Repeat until you have 2 matching
pieces.
put the shoulder sts back on needles and do a 3 needle bind off to attach
the shoulders.
Weave in ends and add fringe.
I chose to cut my fringe pieces 10 inches and attach them at every other space.
