DIRECTIONS
Knitty has a great article on creating socks from the toe up. http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/FEATtiptoptoes.html
I also use only 4 DPN’s while many people use 5 now. My pattern is easily
adaptable to using more needles.
Check it out for the method that makes you most comfortable, I’m going
to use the one I like the best.
Using a figure eight method of casting on, Cast on 16 stitches
(8 on each of 2 Double pointed needles)
Knit one row full off needle1 with needle3
Knit one row full off needle2 with needle4
One row will have twisted stitches, don’t forget to knit into the back
of the stitch to even out those twisted ones when you come to them.
Begin knitting circularly.
First round: Make 1 stitch at the beginning of the round, knit 4. These stitches
will go on Needle 3. The next stitch as the beginning of your round. Using
another dpn, knit 4, make 1. This is Needle 1. Use another dpn [needle 2]
to make 1, knit 8 , make 1. Knit the 5 stitches on Needle 3.
Begin working in stst increasing as follows:
Round 1: Knit all
Round 2:
Needle 1: Knit until the last stitch, M1, K1
Needle 2: Knit 1, M1, knit until the last stitch, M1, K1
Needle 3: Knit 1, M1, knit to the end
Work these 2 rounds until you have a total of 40 (48) 38(42) sts on your needle.
Needle 1: 10(12) sts, Needle 2: 20(24) sts, Needle 3: 10(12) sts
Knit 2 rows even.
Work in pattern until sock measures 3 inches less from heel to toe than the
length you want your sock to be.
START HEEL:
Round 1:
Needle 1: knit all
Needle 2: work in pattern
Needle 3: Knit all
Work this round 4 times total.
WORK A SHORT ROW HEEL
Do not wrap your stitches, here we want the lacy look of the holes, it will
help the heel to match the pattern of the rest of the sock
LEG
Round 1:
Needle 1: knit all
Needle 2: work in pattern
Needle 3: Knit all
Work this round 4 times total.
Work in your pattern for 4 inches.
Knit all sts for 5 rows.
Next row, *YO, K2tog* Repeat across entire row.
Knit all sts for 5 rows.
Use a stretchy bind off and then fold the top of the sock over (inside) at the row of eyelet. This will make your picot top edge. Stitch your hem down to keep your picot edging
This is the end of your sock. It doesn't make a tight cuff, but the socks are anklets so they stay up. If you want a tighter cuff then use this after you work your pattern for 4 inches.
**Optional ending to the socks :
Knit all sts for 1 row
reduce by 6 sts evenly around in the next row
Work a 1x1 ribbing for 5 rows.
Next row, *YO, K2tog* Repeat across entire row.
Work 5 rows of 1x1 ribbing
Use a stretchy bind off and then fold the top of the sock over (inside) at
the row of eyelet. This will make your picot top edge. Stitch your hem down
to keep your picot edging **
Make another.
